The MAG Masonry Training Program

masonry training program - sponsored by MAG in partnership with jollay masonry, inc.

What is the Masonry Association of Georgia Masonry Training Program?

Association Members are dedicated to training our future workforce through an intensive 18 month masonry training program.

What does the 3 year Masonry Training Program Involve?

The masonry training program is a competency-based training program consisting of approximately 432 hours of related classroom and lab training. During training, you will get physical! You will learn to spread mortar and work with brick and block through our hands-on method. You will attend once a week in the late afternoon/evening for four hours. You will be given the opportunity to move forward at your own pace with stage projects and other milestones marking your progress.

We use the National Center of Construction Education and Research (NCCER) curriculum as a supplement: it covers safe and efficient practices in mason tending, laying brick and block, wall performance, mortar composition and mixing, tools and equipment, specialty products, preformed concrete products, stone, and blueprint reading. These are just some of the areas of training you will receive.

What are the Qualifications to Apply?

New students may apply to start the masonry training program in July or December each year. Registration is held one month before the start of the new semester. Contact your employer or email execdirector@mageorgia.org to find out the exact dates for registration.

If you are not currently working for a MAG participating employer and would like to start a rewarding career as a mason, email info@masonrypros.org to schedule an appointment. You will be assisted with your training application and guided towards employment opportunities with a participating employer.

What does it Cost?

Each student is ultimately responsible for their tuition and books. Employers may or may not offer payroll-deduction for tuition and books. Please review your employer´s masonry training program training policy regarding tuition and book cost. Textbooks and other supporting materials are issued the first night of class to students upon receipt of book fee.

Who are the Instructors?

The best way to learn is from an instructor who has hands-on experience in the masonry trade. MAG instructors are veterans of their trade and offer years of experience. Guest instructors also offer their experience from their field to lecture and demonstrate their products.

Where is the Masonry Training Center Located?

The training center is located at 2874 Franklin Street, Avondale Estates, GA 30002. The training center is on the MARTA Bus and Rail System route. Jollay Masonry, Inc. has generously donated the training space for the MAG program.

When are Classes Held?

Masonry Training classes are held weekly on Tuesday from 3:30 PM until 7:30 PM.
